How to Grow Spiritually

Spiritual maturity is the measure of the influence that your faith has in your life and its impact on those you encounter. The more that the beliefs and tenants of your faith shape your worldview and guide your actions, the deeper your spiritual maturity. Genuine relationship with God which inspires action makes spiritual maturity evident and powerful as a witness to others.

How do we grow spiritually? Spiritual disciplines are key. Here are three to try out to get started.

  1. Pray
    1. Communication is the foundation of any healthy relationship.  When we speak with God regularly, He guides us, leads us, and restores us. If we saturate our lives in prayer, we find constant encouragement and guidance in our faith. Keep aware of His presence in your life, because He reminds us that, “you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you” (Jeremiah 29:12, NIV).
  2. Read the Bible
    1. Each morning, meditate on a passage of Scripture. Carry what God teaches you with you throughout the day. Let His words be a light that guides your steps. Through the scriptures, God helps us form a newfound sense of identity, strength, and purpose. By living out what it says, we learn how He desires for us to live.  He wants to reveal it to you through His Word. Never forget that “every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him” (Proverbs 30:5, NIV).
  3. Connect With Your Local Church
    1. The fellowship that you find in a community of believers provides unmatched spiritual motivation. God calls us to live life with others. There is profound truth found in Jesus’ words in Matthew 18:20: “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them” (NIV).

Through this spiritual disciplines we can reach new heights in our faith.
